John Ward found out he was one of six finalists in the design contest for the Kentucky quarter. Designs were voted on by Kentuckians via the internet and ballot box in the Capitol. Of the finalists, Ward is the only one with two designs that made the final cut. His designs were a thoroughbred horse in midstride with jockey in the saddle and a depiction of Stephen Foster's "Old Kentucky Home" in Bardstown.
